Mukachevo taxi drivers were transporting illegal immigrants

Two residents of Mukachevo district, taxi drivers, were transporting four people from Iraq.

Officers of the Service for Combating Human Trafficking of the Transcarpathian police together with traffic policemen stopped two passenger cars at the police post in the village of Nyzhni Vorota in Volovets district, which borders with neighboring Lviv region. A VAZ-2109 was with Transcarpathian license plates and a VAZ-2115 – with Kyiv license plates.

The cars were driven by two residents of Mukachevo district aged 34 and 41 years, both working as drivers of one of the private taxi companies in Mukachevo.

Inside the cars, there were four young Iraqis who had no documents. They were taken to Svalyava district police department where they were identified, and then referred to the immigration service.

The Iraqis arrived to Transcarpathia from Odesa with the intention to go to Western Europe. The taxi drivers themselves claim that those men had stopped them on the way in Mukachevo and asked to show the local scenery.

Currently, the police are establishing the range of people involved in this channel of illegal immigrant smuggling. The incident was registered in the Unified Journal of Svalyava District Police, the investigation into this fact continues.
