Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Hanna Novosad met with Transcarpathian educators

Today, December 6, while visiting Transcarpathia, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Hanna Novosad met with the heads of local education management bodies and employees of the Department of Education and Science of the Regional State Administration. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration Olga Travina.

During a frank talk about educational reform, priorities in the work of the Ministry, Hanna Novosad focused on the achievements that have been reached to date, as well as raised issues that need to be addressed now.

The focus is on timely and rational utilization of subsidies from the state budget to the local budgets in order to provide high-quality, modern and accessible general secondary education "New Ukrainian School", on continued work to ensure proper sanitary and hygienic conditions in educational institutions in order to implement the Children Dignity Program, on the support of reference schools and capable school for better results, and more.

The results of the international PISA survey, in which Ukraine participated for the first time in 2018, and especially the analysis on each of the competencies presented by the Minister show that the reform of "New Ukrainian School" is an objective necessity for the country. So, in the future, the Ministry will continue to implement the "New Ukrainian School".

The other tasks are: changing the content of education – preparing the standard of primary and secondary school; systematic approach to improving the quality of training and professional development of teachers (improvement of the skill enhancement system); combating education inequality: making the utmost effort – from investing in equipment to closing low-quality, inefficient schools – for better children’s grades; additional research that will help to understand some of the worrying trends in education, etc.

The Minister also informed that the 2020/2021 academic year would be the year of mathematics in Ukraine – the President of Ukraine agreed to that. This initiative will be aimed at developing mathematical skills among students.

The participants also raised topical issues governing the establishment and operation of the reference school network, improving their facilities, taking into account real needs and requests, and the changes expected in the field of pre-school education.
