Migrants from Sri Lanka and a border guard, who probably assisted to their trip, were detained Transcarpathia

Three Sri Lankan were arrested yesterday afternoon in Transcarpathia by border guards of the Mukachevo detachment in the area of ​​responsibility of the department "Dilove".

The travelers were stopped 500 meters to the state border with Romania. They had no IDs, but identified themselves as citizens of Sri Lanka.

In addition to the Shri Lankans, the joint patrol noticed two people who tried to flee.However, the men soon were caught and detained. Those people were possibly involved in the smuggling of illegal immigrants and assisted to their illegal trip. During the check, it was found out that the fugitives were citizens of Ukraine, one of them, moreover, was an employee of the State Border Guard Service.

The police was informed about the incident. Currently, the information under Part 2 of Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on trafficking of persons across the state border of Ukraine was registered in the URPI. The investigation is ongoing.
