In the appeal, they ask for legal assessment of the actions of police officers, who on checkpoint "Kupyansk" in Kharkiv region would not let Transcarpathian volunteers to the area of the anti-terrorist operation to deliver humanitarian aid to military personnel.
"We, members of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, are extremely concerned about the fact of boorish attitude on the part of law enforcement officers to Transcarpathian volunteers delivering humanitarian aid to Svatove in Luhansk region on December 29, 2014.
On that day, around 9.00 am, at the checkpoint "Kupyansk" in Kharkiv region, the police officers stopped the volunteers, and without any reason, for several hours would not allow them to go to their destination.
The information about their reluctance to let the volunteers go without a "reward" immediately appeared in the Internet network. Its authenticity was confirmed by phone by Rakhiv volunteer Oleksandr Shutko. He said that the police officers made the volunteers stay in the cold for several hours until they paid 300 UAH.
Transcarpathian volunteers were among the first to show patriotic enthusiasm, and risking their lives help our military personnel in the east of the state. What happened at the checkpoint "Kupyansk" is unprecedented and unacceptable.
We are deeply outraged by the actions of these so-called "law enforcement officers" who disgrace Ukrainian police, undermine the international image of the Ukrainian state."
For these reasons, due to the widespread coverage of the incident, the deputies request to take the necessary steps to organize an uninterrupted access for volunteers to the area of the anti-terrorist operation and to carry out an investigation and give a legal assessment of the actions of law enforcement officers who were on duty on December 29, 2014, at the checkpoint "Kupyansk" in Kharkiv region.
