“Marble” contraband was confiscated in Transcarpathia

Uzhgorod customs officers seized marble slabs worth UAH 1.3 million because of false information

A truck "Renault Magnum" with a semitrailer driven by a citizen of Ukraine arrived to the customs post "Tisa" of the Transcarpathian customs office. According to the accompanying documents submitted by the driver for customs control (letter from the customs authorities of Hungary, carnet books TIR, CMR, invoice and packing list), he was transporting across the customs border of Ukraine 59 marble slabs, weighing 14,800 kg and worth 31,801 Euro. The sender of the goods was an Italian company, and the receiver was a Ukrainian LLC.

During the customs control and inspection of the cargo and the vehicle, 63 marble slabs were found in the semi-trailer. 59 of them were being moved into Ukraine according to the shipping documents.

During the inspection of the truck cabin, they found a printout of Italian export customs declaration, the original invoice and four copies. The driver had not submitted those documents for customs control. They stated that an Italian company had sold a Ukrainian LLC 59 marble slabs and 2 pairs of ribs and metal chains for UAH 1 million 322 thousand.

Thus, the citizen of Ukraine moved across the customs border of Ukraine the goods concealed from customs control, by submitting the customs authority of Ukraine the documents containing false information regarding the description and value of the goods. The report on violation of customs rules was drawn up on the basis of the offense provided for in Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, the goods being the direct object of the offense were confiscated.
