Ecoducts are special designs that allow animals to safely cross the road, usually constructed in the form of bridges or tunnels and looking like a natural extension of the environment: grass, shrubs, even trees grow on ecoducts.

According to the information publication "Mind.ua" with reference to the WWF in Ukraine, ecologists and public activists, participants of the Transgreen project, are working on the creation of special bridges for wild animals – ecoducts – on some Ukrainian highways.

The network of highways and railways connecting the regions of Ukraine and Europe is currently in the planning stage. This infrastructure will be built through the Carpathian Mountains and will affect valuable ecosystems that are an integral part of the nature reserve fund.

In particular, ecoducts are planned to be arranged in the habitat of endangered animals – lynx and brown bear, of which there are 200 and 220 species left, respectively.

They will focus on several pilot sites: planning of the road Miklos (Hungary) – Kosice (Slovakia) – Uzhgorod (Ukraine), Targu Mures – Iasi (Romania), Beskydy highway (Czech Republic – Slovakia).

The first such crossings were built in France in the 1950s and subsequently spread throughout the world, from Australia to Northern Europe.
