Law enforcement officers insist on the introduction of CCTV in Uzhgorod

Law enforcement officers insist on prompt implementation of the video surveillance system in Uzhgorod by the City Council

The issue of urgent provision of Uzhgorod with a quality video surveillance system has been repeatedly raised by law enforcement agencies of the region.

It is obvious that equipping streets, buildings, structures, adjoining territories and places of mass gathering of citizens with CCTV cameras will not only facilitate the detection of crimes, but will also prevent the commission of new ones.

According to the study, in the last year alone, 431 crimes were committed in public cities of Uzhgorod, including 84 serious and particularly serious ones. Usually, the vast majority of criminal offenses are latent (hidden) in nature, that is, when they are committed there are no witnesses, etc., which, in turn, makes it impossible to ensure a timely, complete and objective investigation of such criminal offenses.

Currently, in the regional center of Transcarpathia, only about a third of the two hundred cameras announced by the City Council actually function.

Another 30 surveillance cameras are currently being used by law enforcement agencies with the consent of private entrepreneurs.

Only 18 out of the all installed cameras are equipped with license plate recognition function, however, it cannot actually be used, since the City Council has not yet purchased the necessary software.

It is obvious that the proper provision of Uzhgorod with a high quality video surveillance system with a wide range of search and analytical functions will help to solve crimes and improve the safety of residents and guests of the regional center. The preventive function of the video surveillance system is also important.
