It is the “day of silence” in Ukraine: what it means

Saturday, October 24 is the "day of silence" in Ukraine before the day of voting in the local elections.

This was reported by the Interfax-Ukraine.

"Campaigning ends at 24:00 on the last Friday before election day. Campaigning before and after the deadlines set in this article is prohibited," – Part 2 of Art. 54 of the Law of Ukraine on Local Elections states.

According to the law, on the "day of silence" and directly on the day of voting "it is prohibited to hold mass events (meetings, rallies, marches, demonstrations, etc.) on behalf of candidates, local organizations of parties – subjects of the election process, as well as political parties, whose local organizations are the subjects of the election process."

The National Police of Ukraine calls on to comply with the election law and in case of violations to immediately inform law enforcement.
