Is there a risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 through water?

According to experts from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is no evidence that COVID-19 is spread through water in swimming pools, whirlpools, spas, etc., as the virus is killed by disinfectants used to purify water.

There is also no evidence that SARS-CoV-2 is present in surface, groundwater or transmitted through contaminated drinking water.
We remind you that the main route of transmission of COVID-19 is air-borne: through small drops that are discharged from nose or mouth of the patient when coughing, sneezing or talking and sprayed in the surrounding air. That is, if you swim and the person next to you coughs, you risk getting infected by inhaling the drops.
Thus, the possibility of spreading COVID-19 while being on the beaches is associated with crowds of people – whether they are in the water or on land.
– What helps to protect against coronavirus SARS-CoV-2: social distancing;
– regular treatment of hands with alcohol and / or washing them with soap;
– proper use of masks and compliance with other rules of respiratory hygiene.
