In Uzhgorod powerlifters were competing in the open air

Today, September 2, in Uzhgorod for the first time in history the powerlifting tournament was held in the open air. This was especially emphasized by the competition reporter Andriy Fedorishko, the coach of one of the most titled powerlifters Elizabeth Ban.

However, this is not the only feature of the tournament. Firstly, the tournament was general for all the athletes, that is they were not divided by weight categories. Secondly, it was inter-regional – apart from heroes of Uzhgorod and Perechyn athletes from Lviv region also participated in the competition.

The winner of the tournament was to take the highest weight in total, regardless of one’s own weight. Since this approach to determine the winner is not fair with regard to light athletes who can not raise the same amount of "iron" as heavyweights a priori, there was a separate prize for the athlete who took the highest weight according to his weight category.

Unfortunately, powerlifting can hardly be called a spectacular sports, so viewers at the Theater Square were not numerous. However, it should be noted that this type of competition was held for the first time in the history of the region, so if it is held in the upcoming years, it will possibly gather larger audiences. At least due to a sense of patriotism, as the powerlifting – one of the few sports in which Transcarpathia can demonstrate nation-wide or even international level of skills.
