In Transcarpathia they talked about prospects of the crossing point “Lubnya-Volosate”

The Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv Jaroslaw Drozd is visiting Transcarpathia. On Wednesday, he and the chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Ivan Baloha visited Velyky Berezny district, where they visited the site of the future crossing point "Lubnya-Volosate." Together with the chairman of Velyky Berezny District Council Vasyl Kanyuka, representatives of the Uzhok National Park, border guards of Poland and Ukraine, they discussed the prospects of opening the new border crossing point.

 The total length of the border with Poland within Transcarpathian region is 32.6 km. The nearest crossing point is located about 100 km away, in Lviv region, in Transcarpathia there is none. Currently, there are 12 crossing points on the 535 km long border line between Ukraine and Poland.

Residents of Transcarpathia having family ties with Poland, in order to cross the Ukrainian-Polish border, must overcome considerable distance in Ukraine or go through Slovakia, which takes additional time. According to the Regional Council Chairman Ivan Baloha, the opening of the crossing point in Velyky Berezny district would solve this problem. Last December, the Regional Council appealed to the government to consider the possibility of the opening of six new checkpoints, including "Lubnya-Volosate." Thus, the opening of this checkpoint was included in the program of the establishment of checkpoints on the state border of Ukraine in 2015.   "Our communities need more frequent contacts, and the opening of another checkpoint will bring us one step closer to Europe" – Ivan Baloha said.

 The Consul General of Poland in Lviv Jaroslaw Drozd believes that the future of our countries is associated with the development of cross-border cooperation. In his opinion, the opening of the crossing point will facilitate socio-economic development of our border regions, small businesses in the tourism sector and, last but not least, improve their investment appeal.      Velyky Berezny District Council Chairman Vasyl Kanyuka believes that the opening of the checkpoint will revitalize life in the depressed villages of the district. And especially in Lubnya.   Polish border guards reported that several times a month, tourists come to Volosate to look at the nearest Ukrainian village, but they are not able to get to Lubnya.

At the same time, the participants of the meeting noted that after the opening of the checkpoint they would develop a new tourist route that would pass through Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia.
