In Transcarpathia, Moskal and Tombinski discussed the possibility of opening a crossing point on the border with Poland

During the visit to Transcarpathia on Wednesday, October 28, the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski met with the head of the region Hennadiy Moskal.

The EU Ambassador arrived to our region on the occasion of the opening of the EU Information Centre in Uzhgorod National University. "There are more than five hundred such centers around the world, twenty-two of them are operating in Ukraine. Their task is to inform about the EU and its policies. We believe that this is a very important task, because without information, myths and stereotypes arise," – Jan Tombinski said.

– Transcarpathians seem to know everything about the European Union. Here people live on the border with four EU member states, compare the living standards and seek to live by European standards. Unfortunately, the economic situation in the country is difficult and does not allow us to move in this direction. But, as history shows, neighboring countries also experienced difficult times on the way to EU membership – Hennadiy Moskal said.

During the meeting, they discussed the process of decentralization and cooperation of Transcarpathia with neighboring countries in economic and cultural spheres. Hennadiy Moskal raised the issue of opening a pedestrian and bicycle crossing point on the border of Transcarpathia and Poland.

The head of the region also stressed on the expediency to hold Days of Neighbourliness with the Polish Subcarpathian region so that people on both sides of the border were able to meet and jointly hold cultural programs.
