In Transcarpathia, domestic animals will be protected by “electronic shepherds”

As part of the cooperation of the WWF teams in Ukraine and WWF Polska, by the end of 2018, it is planned to install special electric fences, so called "electronic shepherds" on model territories of Transcarpathia. So far, they plan to install 10 electric fences in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi regions, the WWF reported.

This was discussed in the city of Yaremche (Ivano-Frankivsk region) at a special meeting organized by the WWF in Ukraine with the support of the project LIFE EuroLargeCarnivores and the WWF Polska, which was attended by more than 30 participants from the western regions of Ukraine.

At the seminar, they did mapping of the problems related to large predators of Ukraine – brown bear, lynx and wolf. According to WWF experts, this approach makes it possible to demonstrate and understand exactly where the "largest" conflicts in human and wildlife co-existence are "hidden". When the cause is known, it’s easier to find the right keys to solve the problem. This in turn forms an objective space for finding and implementing effective solutions. The event with mapping of the problems of large predators was held in Ukraine for the first time.
