In Transcarpathia, a drunk driver was threatening the police with a knife

Policemen handcuffed the drunken attacker and took him to the hospital for examination. The investigator of Beregovo distrit police department opened criminal proceedings over the threat of violence to law enforcement officers.
 
In the afternoon, an ambulance dispatcher reported to Beregovo District Police department that in Beregovo, at the intersection of Mukachivska and B.Khmelnytsky street, an accident had occured.
 
The investigative team was sent to the scene. The police found out that the driver of a car "VAZ-2106", 38-year-old citizen O., moving on B.Khmelnytsky street, lost control, resulting in a collision with a curb and a metal fence.
 
The citizens who witnessed the accident reported that the driver fled from the scene in the direction of the channel.
 
Law enforcement officers began to pursue the offender and a few minutes later caught up with him. However, the man suddenly pulled out a knife from his pocket and began to threaten the police officers.
 
The policeman had to use physical restraint and handcuff the hooligan. During the arrest of the armed hooligan, police officers were not injuried.
 
The detainee was taken to a medical institution for examination. The examination showed that the driver was in a state of intoxication.
 
For violation of the traffic rulles that led to accident, for driving while intoxicated and without proper documents (driver’s license), the reports of adminitsrative offenses were drawn up against citizen O. under the relevant provisions of the CoAO of Ukraine.
 
Also, the investigation department of Beregovo District Police opened criminal proceedings over threats of violence to law enforcement officers under Part 1 of Art.345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment up to imprisonment for up to three years.
