In Transcarpathia, a drug smuggler, who was internationally wanted, has been convicted

The judgment of Uzhgorod city and district court in Transcarpathian region against a citizen of Ukraine, who was found guilty of smuggling drugs – cannabis resin, has entered into force.

In late 2008, the resident of Lviv, while working in Spain, bought the drug and decided to forward it to Lviv by delivering with international road carriers. The offender hid the drug among food – in a jar of jam. In Lviv, the man made a deal with his friend that he would receive the package.

At the customs point "Tisa" of the Chop customs, law enforcement officers found and seized the package with suspicious substance. Experts determined that it was the cannabis resin, especially dangerous and prohibited narcotic.

Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region opened a criminal case against the sender under Part 2 of Art.305 (smuggling of drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues or precursors) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The resident of Lviv region was long hiding abroad, so he was put on the international wanted list.

In September 2013, the offender returned to Ukraine and voluntarily came to the pretrial investigation authorities. Uzhgorod City and District Court sentenced him to a five years imprisonment with a probation period of 3 years.

According to the court decision, the confiscated drug will be destroyed.
