The doctor was detained in his office when he was receiving the money, the press service of the prosecutor’s office in Transcarpathian region informs.
Officers of the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor’s Office in Transcarpathian Region, together with officers of the Economic Crime Department detained the obstetrician-gynecologist of the Uzhgorod City Maternity Hospital for extorting and receiving $ 500 in illegal benefit.
The doctor demanded the money from a pregnant woman and her husband for hospitalization, provision of medical aid at childbirth and the issuance of documents after delivery.
The doctor took from the woman’s husband the passport of a citizen of Ukraine and promised to return it with other documents after full payment.
The man was arrested in his office while receiving the illegal benefit.
The issue of his arrest under Art. 208 of the CCP of Ukraine and notification of being suspected is being decided. In addition, other facts of committing similar crimes by him are being checked.
Primary classification of this criminal offense is Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – extortion and reception of unlawful benefit by an official.
