“In a foreign country, you are always a stranger.” In UzhNU, Zhadan talked about emigration

The famous Ukrainian writer Serhiy Zhadan visited Uzhgorod.

At the invitation of the management of UzhNU, he took part in the discussion of a relevant problem for Ukrainians in general and Transcarpathians in particular – emigration.

Serhiy Zhadan is understanding about the Ukrainians leaving abroad.  "I have a philosophical attitude to this issue. If a person leaves, if they want to find themselves, if their identity is not necessarily linked to their family home, they have that right. Forcing such people to stay in the country will not do any good. You can say anything you want: that leaving the country is good or bad. But experience shows that in most cases a person who leaves, can not completely break their root here and at the same time can not take root there, outside the country", – Zhadan says.

He says most people leave the country to fulfill themselves. The writer is convinced that, despite the fact that Ukrainians abroad make much more money, emotionally they do not always feel very good. They remain mentally in their native country. They live in Ukrainian reality.

Serhiy Zhadan says: "Every Ukrainian should travel, because it is the only way to grow. A person without knowledge is vulnerable, and can be easily manipulated. Therefore, being in a foreign country, one should not forget about their homeland and remember that sooner or later they will return home."

In the evening of that day, Serhiy Zhadan performed with the group "Dogs in Space" within the nationwide tour.
