Hungarian organizations of Ukraine are outraged by the statements of the President at the 12th Kyiv Security Forum

Representatives of the Hungarian organizations of Ukraine wrote an open letter regarding the statements of the President Petro Poroshenko at the 12th Kyiv Security Forum. The document was signed by the People’s Deputy of Ukraine, the head of the NGO "Society of Hungarian Culture of Transcarpathia" Vasyl Brenzovych, the head of the Democratic Union of Hungarians of Ukraine Laszlo Zubanych, the rector of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute named after Ferenc II Rakoczi, the head of the Transcarpathian Hungarian-speaking Pedagogical Society Ildika Oros.

The statement of the Hungarian organizations reads that "the President of Ukraine P.O.Poroshenko at the 12th Kyiv Security Forum, when answering the question concerning the need to improve Ukrainian-Hungarian relations, said in particular: "Note when the position of Hungary changed, was it after the adoption of our Law, or after representatives of the Hungarian Government returned from Moscow?". He also stressed that "on the one hand, it is necessary to listen to the Hungarian party, and on the other hand, to secure and protect our state values, including the protection of the rights of children, Ukrainian citizens whom somebody wants to deprive of the right to know Ukrainian. Because at the moment they can not even pass the exam…".

"The above statement by the incumbent President of Ukraine, as well as his support for the draft law "On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian as the state language", which affirms the violation of the educational rights of national minorities and leads to the prohibition of the use of minority languages in virtually all spheres of social relations, suggests that, contrary to his promises given 5 years ago, he has not become a defender of the rights of minorities, but on the contrary, he now positions himself as one of the supporters of their opression, wrongly considering it national interests and national security factor" – the statement of the Hungarian organizations of Ukraine reads.
