How people treat Soviet heritage in Transcarpathia – evidence

Well-known Ukrainian journalist, TV host, producer and former police officer Konstantin Stogniy is now in Mukachevo. He and about fifty more TV workers came to the city on business – to shoot a new show, the publication Panorama Mukacheva found out. Konstantin has already been in Uzhgorod, but it is his first visit to Mukachevo.

On his page on FB, Konstantin draws attention to the "mysterious and interesting" circumstances: "I have seen here the castle Palanok and the only in western Ukraine Russian Drama Theatre. On the central Myr Square in Mukachevo, there is a well maintained monument to "Soviet soldiers, liberators of Transcarpathia." Since only fools believe the media, I decided to personally talk to townspeople. In general, nobody is annoyed by the monument. People believe that history should be respected. It is a great sin to disrespect graves of any soldiers. And local leaders must think about jobs and fight corruption, not monuments. Seemingly, simple human truth… But why don’t people in Kyiv and Lviv understand it?!".
