Having had too much alcohol, a Transcarpathian made up a story about robbery

A 35-year-old resident of Uzhgorod district reported to the police that he had been attacked by bandits. In actuality, there was no crime, the man just had had too much alcohol.

Last night, Uzhgorod district police department received a report from a resident of the village of Vovkove in Uzhgorod district. The agitated applicant reported that unknown persons in masks had attacked her son, beaten and robbed him.

Robbery is a serious crime. The investigative team immediately was sent to the village. The victim was a 35-year-old resident of Vovkove. The man said that around 23.00 unknown persons in masks had broken into his yard, beaten him and taken away the money in the amount of UAH 800 and a mobile phone. He could not tell anything else, because he had lost consciousness due to the beatings.

As the law enforcement officers found out, the victim’s mother was not at home at that time. So she did not see what was happening in her house.

Law enforcement officers called an ambulance, which delivered the victim to Uzhgorod, to the neurosurgical department of the regional hospital. However, doctors did not find any visible injuries and sent the patient home.

Having interviewed neighbors, witnesses, thee police soon found out what really had happened in this confusing story. The pseudo-victim had too much alcohol, lost his phone (it was later found at home), and, to avoid rebukes from his mother about the lost phone, made up a story about thugs in masks.

With his fictional story, the villager diverted the police officers from investigating real crimes. And this is no joke. Now, the Transcarpathian can be imprisoned for two years for false report of a crime (Art. 383 of the CCU).
