Extortion and threats of violence in Irshava district

The suspects were detained and taken to a temporary detention center. 

According to the official website of the Main Office of the National Police in Transcarpathian region, the police of Irshava district opened an investigation over extortion and the threat of violence against law enforcement officers. 

According to the Communication Department of the Transcarpathian regional police, yesterday, July 13, a 20-year-old resident of the village of Zarichchya appealed to the Irshava police station. The girl reported that an unknown person was extorting money from her for not disclosing information that the applicant wished to keep secret. 

Investigators opened a criminal proceeding over extortion under Part 2 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. 

After receiving detailed information, the investigators found out that two men were demanding money from the victim. Both are residents of Irshava district. The police detained one of them at the crime scene, and his accomplice escaped from the scene. 

"In a few hours, the man was found thanks to the joint efforts of the investigators and inspectors of the patrol police response sector. While talking with the law enforcement officers, the fugitive began to resist the policemen and ran over an officer with a car Skoda Octavia, which he was driving. After that, the suspect wanted to avoid punishment by leaving the crime scene, but law enforcement officers stopped and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. The man was taken to the temporary detention facility. His actions are classified under Part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is, Threat or violence against a law enforcement officer. According to the sanction of the article, the punishment range from restriction of liberty for up to 5 years to imprisonment for the same term," – the report says.
