Experts monitored forest plots in the National Park “Synevyr”

In the National Park "Synevyr", they laid 20 test plots in the spruce forest to determine the state of plants and predict the dynamics of diseases and pests. Twice a year – in spring and in autumn – they check the plots, recording and measuring the trees, their species composition. The monitoring of the plots has been carried out by employees of the National Park "Synevyr" with the head of the Transcarpathian forest pathology station Vasyl Trykur and a forest pathologist Oleksandr Haychynya.

According to the experts, in some plots there is a significant number of the trees affected by windfalls and snow breakage, as well as fungal root and stem rotting diseases. Some silver fir trees are affected with cancer.

"In recent years, the trees have been dying due to the sharp and prolonged warming in summer without rain, – the head of the Transcarpathian forest pathology station Vasyl Trykur says. – Since the spruce has shallow root system, lowering of the water table and lack of rainfall leads to drying out."

To save the forest, experts recommend to carry out activities to improve the health of forests. For example, in spring, workers of the National Park "Synevyr" put 150 pheromone traps to capture pests.
