Electronic tickets in Uzhgorod: to be or not to be?

The introduction of an electronic ticket for city buses was discussed today at the briefing of the Deputy Mayor Igor Fartushok in Uzhgorod, the Uzhgorod City Council reported on its Facebook page.
Igor Fartushok noted that the city has been working on the implementation of this project for several years, because electronic ticket is an essential now. On the instructions of the mayor Bohdan Andriyiv, the city council experts studied the experience of other cities, attended presentations of different electronic accounting systems. In October 2018, the operator of the automated system of fare payment accounting on city buses was determined, the winner was the state-owned "PrivatBank". The system could have been implemented late last year, but the bank announced that it has a new development, more modern, it is not used in any of the Ukrainian cities, is unique and easy to use. The new technology will allow residents and guests of Uzhgorod to pay fair in any convenient way – cards, smartphones (via Google Pay or Apple Pay), through a bank application or with a one-time QR-ticket. QR-ticket printing service is already available at PrivatBank POS terminals in most Uzhgorod outlets, there are 1280 in total. It will be possible to buy a ticket from the driver as well, but, according to Igor Fartushok, then its price should be higher.
PrivatBank gives the city free of charge and installs its own modern terminal equipment (certified according to all requirements of international Mastercard and VISA payment systems), which activates under 1 second; ensures free issuance of bank cards with contactless payment function; manages transactions and provides complete statistics on transportation and payment for transportation.
Currently, in Uzhgorod, there are 300 new generation validators, the PrivatBank has purchased them for installation on all city buses. The executive committee of the Uzhgorod city council will consider amending the agreement between the bank and the city council, and in case of a positive vote for the project, the bank is ready to install all the validators within a week.
