Don’t forget to set the clock back one hour: on the night of October 27, we switch to winter time!

On the night of October 26 to October 27, Ukraine switches to winter time

At 4:00, clocks will need to be set back one hour.

The procedure for calculating time in the territory of Ukraine is determined by the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 509 of May 13, 1996: the time of the second time zone (Kyiv time) with setting clocks forward 1 hour on the last Sunday of March at 3:00, and back 1 hour on the last Sunday of October at 4:00.

The decision to change time twice a year was first made in Britain in 1908. The British introduced this tradition for a purpose of a more rational use of the daylight. In the former USSR, including Ukraine, daylight-saving time was introduced as late as in 1981.

Currently, winter and summer times are in place in more than 110 countries in the world. However, in the summer of 2018, the EU voted that after April 2019 each country would decide for itself whether to change time or not, as there would be no general recommendations from the European Parliament.
