On Sunday, November 10, three mute swans settled on the Uzh river in the regional center. Ornithologist Ludwig Potish told the Zelene Zakarpattya that they had come from the north of our Carpathians – perhaps the first serious frost has hit there.
Experts advise to not feed the feathered guests of Uzhgorod yet. So far, they have enough natural food – aquatic plants. However, if you still want to feed them, you should remember that you can not throw them anything that you feel appropriate.
In particular, ornithologists insist that bakery is not a natural food for birds, it is not digested properly by their stomachs and, besides, it can lead to liver disorder. This threat is particularly relevant, in case when birds eat only bread because the water is frozen, or due to other inability to get natural food. In such event, liver disorder may occur on the second week (!) after eating bread. Ornithologists advise to feed the swans grains and vegetables – beet, cucumbers, cabbage and so on.
