Customs officers seized illegal expensive Italian wine

A citizen of Ukraine tried to import 92 bottles of expensive Italian wine of "Martini Asti" brand, worth over 16 thousand, without paying customs duties.
The 32-year-old resident of Ivano-Frankivsk region, returning from the Italian town of Naples via the checkpoint "Tisa" of the Chop Customs declared that he was carrying in a minivan 24 bags of personal items.Orally he also stated that he had no other goods that are subject to tax, or restricted for import in large quantities.
However, as revealed by the inspection of the luggage compartment of the vehicle, the driver was importing in Ukraine 92 bottles of white sparkling wine "Martini Asti" (D.O.C.G. spumanti).
So, for failure to comply with national legislation a protocol against the Ukrainian has been written under Art.472 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. Illegal bottles of martini will be kept at the customs warehouse until the court decision – informed Victoria Senhetovska, spokesperson for Chop customs.
