Contemporary ceramics of Ukraine in Uzhgorod (PHOTOS)

The exhibition of ceramics "Prima Terra" opened in the "Uzhgorod" gallery. The works are vibrant and diverse. Among the authors, there are both young and experienced artists – Nats Popova, Beata Korn, Miroslava Rosul, Vyacheslav Vinkovsky, Andriana Kuruts, Oleksandr Sopilnyak and many others. The authors are from different places – Uzhgorod, Irshava, Lviv, Kyiv. 

During the opening of the exhibition, art historian Oksana Havrosh said: "We saw excellent pictures and installations, ceramic design is noticeably present here, and artists must develop it further." But, she adds, it is a shame Transcarpathian ceramists organize such events so rarely.

The exhibition was also attended by a guest from Chernivtsi – the Director of the City Art Gallery Natalia Bogomaz. She had a special goal – to search for interesting authors. Next year Ms. Bogomaz is going to open the first museum of modern ceramics in Ukraine and, she admitted, she was lucky to find a lot of interesting authors in Uzhgorod.

Ceramist Oleksandr Dvorak from Irshava said that his works are displayed at such exhibition for the first time. And not alone. The work of his sister Olesya Dvorak-Halik, who now lives in Kyiv, is also exhibited. "So I am twice happy" – he says. The works are put on display next to other.. At home, Sasha is mainly engaged in traditional pottery (jugs, plates), revives the tradition of Irshava potters. But now, he is also trying his hand at contemporary ceramics.
