Cars imported to Ukraine for free trade must comply with at least “Euro 5” environmental standards

As of January 1, 2016, in accordance with the current legislation, new and used vehicles shall be imported into the customs territory of Ukraine for free trade subject to compliance with environmental standards not lower than "Euro 5". The exceptions are vehicles that were imported into Ukraine before December 31, 2015.

Customs offices of the SFS within their powers check the information about the level of environmental standards specified in the documents, thus controlling the compliance of importers with Article 2 of the Law of Ukraine "On some issues of entry into the customs territory of Ukraine and registration of vehicles."

Due to this, citizens importing cars into Ukraine for free trade shall confirm the level of compliance of vehicles with environmental standards.

The document specifying the level of environmental standards the vehicle conforms to ("Euro-2" – "Euro 6" or other level) is a certificate or other document of conformity issued under the laws of Ukraine. Designation of environmental standards the vehicle conforms to must be present in the certificate of registration for the vehicle.

These requirements do not apply to vehicles imported into Ukraine for purposes other than free circulation trade.
