Builders have dug more than 600 meters of the Beskid tunnel

At the mountain pass in the Carpathians, on the stretch Beskid-Skotarske, the construction of a double-track Beskid tunnel continues non-stop. Builders have already dug 638 meters of the upper ledge.

Penetration – ie extraction of rock to create artificial cavities – is the most difficult stage of the construction of this important facility.  The pace of works depends on the type of rock. The tunneling will not stop in the winter. The work on the construction of a new Beskid tunnel, which began October 29, 2013, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017.

For Ukraine, the Beskid tunnel is of strategic importance because this route is used to transport goods to the western border of the country, and over 60% of transit goods to Western and Central Europe.

The new tunnel is being built at a distance of 30 meters from the existing one.
