Builders have accelerated the rate of the Beskid tunnel driving

The construction of the Beskid tunnel is performed around the clock. According to the Main department of the railroad lines, the rate of driving has been increased. Until recently, they did two explosions in three days and builders advanced up to 1.5 m in brittle rock that required additional supports. Then, the soil became stronger, so blasting is carried out every day and they advance 2,38 m at a time.

Earlier it was reported that according to the contract, the tunnel should be commissioned at the end of 2016. To implement this project, the railroad had to lay the 5.5 km long road from the eastern to the western portal through the mountain, and to build a temporary bridge near the west portal for removal of earth without interfering with the train traffic through the old tunnel.

Currently, the service of construction works and civil buildings of the Ukrainian Railways is involved in the construction. Specialists will be reinforcing slopes of the mountain, from which they have excavated 69 thousand cubic meters of soil, with concrete solution and geological grid. According to the railroad workers, it will allow to lay a new track along the slope and thus increase the radius of the curve while approaching the tunnel on the eastern side. As a result, the speed of trains will increase to 70 km / h. In general, the railroad workers will lay 7 km 550 m of track near the western and eastern portal of the tunnel and through it, provide electricity supple for this stretch, install alarms and communication means.
