Borzhava narrow-gauge railway should be rescued by the entire world

The next round of a long history around Borzhava narrow-gauge railway was reversed yesterday. The workers from Lugansk are dismantling a 15 km narrow-gauge railway in Irshava district, sold by the regional office of the State Property Fund of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region. The gauge used to pass between the villages of Priborzhavskoe and Kushnitsa in Irshava district – informs a head of Irshava District Council Stanislav Sukhan. He noticed that today he launched an initiative to hold a press conference because he hopes that due to publicity this case will not come to the brutal end. Rails were cut off and dumped on the roadside and in the evening were taken to the export. ‘We will not allow anyone to destroy the narrow-gauge railway – said Stanislav Sukhan – at such a position stand all the 52 members of Irshava District Council.

We remind that recently, the press service of the State Property Fund in Transcarpathian region insisted that the ‘privatization of the narrow-gauge railway between the villages brought more than 410 000 hryvnia to the state budget, as well as stopped its theft, destruction and damage. In addition, the state budget received almost 130 thousand UAH as a compensation for damages to the company "Dolzhansky Lesokombinat", which were caused by improper maintenance of state property’.

According to Stanislav Sukhan they are not against the narrow-gauge railway transfer in communal property under management and control of the local community. Although representatives of Lviv Railway calculated that they need 5-6 million per year for its maintenance, which is a great sum of money for subsidized region, so they, of course need a state support – their duty is to find a part of the investors and funds so that railroad could continue its existence.
