The Hungarian government temporarily suspends the application of the EU rules on regular checks on its borders. This was reported by Karoly Kontrat, the Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of the Ministry of Interior – Mukachevo.net informs.
According to Kontrat, because of the application of the new rules, in some areas long queues have emerged at border crossing points, and in the summer the waiting time may significantly increase.
The official said that the Hungarian Government considers it necessary to suspend the application of regular border control measures – an appropriate decision on this issue will soon be published in the official gazette – and instead introduces targeted border control.
– Hungary, since the very beginning (of the application of the new EU rules. – Ed.), has had doubts about this law and its implementation in practice, which were confirmed by the complications in recent weeks – Kontrat said.
He said that Brussels should, first of all, pay attention to issues of illegal immigration and finding terrorists. However, it should not affect such an important achievement as free movement of EU citizens within the Schengen area.
