Baloha: “Having two passports does not stop Transcarpathian Hungarians to fight and give their lives for Ukraine”

"The visit of a young diplomat Klimkin to Transcarpathia on private business, with the opinion about the Transcarpathian Hungarians only shows a lack of understanding of the situation," – the deputy of Ukraine Victor Baloha says.

The politician explains in his facebook:

"Why?

Well, first, he is very wrong when he says that Ukrainian Hungarians cross our border with a passport of a citizen of Ukraine and the border with Hungary – with a Hungarian passport. It is a big myth. Ukrainian Hungarians mostly go to Hungary on foot to their families and children. And it’s mostly older people. All, who cross the border, use Ukrainian passport both on the Hungarian, and the Ukrainian border.

Here is the typical family of Hungarians in Ukraine. They are elderly people who have children and relatives there. But their lives are linked with Ukraine. Yes, Transcarpathian Hungarians have passports of Hungary, as well as some MPs and civil servants have passports of Israel, Cyprus, Switzerland, and some of them do not even hide it. Therefore, if the government wants to resolve this issue, they should start with themselves.

The most important thing is not to make undiplomatic statements, then there will be no hysteria of some politicians in Hungary itself. Because, the Minister said that and left, and the region is still shaking."

"One more thing. I want everyone to understand that having two passports does not stop Transcarpathian Hungarians from fighting and giving their lives for Ukraine", – Victor Baloha said.
