Autonomous trade preferences of the EU for Ukrainian goods

The European Union plans to unilaterally grant Ukraine autonomous trade preferences. This will reduce or eliminate EU customs duties on products originating in Ukraine.

For example, due to the introduction of quotas in bilateral trade between the EU and Ukraine, Ukrainian producers will have the opportunity to deliver a certain amount of such goods free of duties. That is, only the products exceeding the quota will be subject to general import rules. They will be taxed under the conditions existing in Ukraine today.

The use of autonomous trade preferences will tentatively begin in May 2014.

More details on the autonomous preferential trade regime of the EU for Ukraine, the instruction on the rules to be applied when exporting to the EU member states, as well as the draft Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council concerning the reduction or abolition of customs duties on goods originating in Ukraine are available on the official website of the Ministry of Economic Development, HERE.

Recall that on March 21, 2014, during the EU summit, they signed the political provision of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. The economic part of the Agreement is planned to be signed in June or July 2014.
