Another scandalous privatization is expected in Transcarpathia

Once one of the largest resorts in the region – the ‘Perlyna Karpat" – is being prepared for privatization. The agenda of the session of the Regional Council to be held this Thursday includes the issue "On transfer of ownership of the buildings and structures complex "Sanatorium "Perlyna Karpat" to territorial communities of villages, towns and cities of the region." After adoption of this decision, the Public Property Department of the Regional State Administration will be able to begin the auction for the sale of the property.

June 8 of the last year, the regional council tried to take the ownership of the resort. But the proposal of the Governor Oleksandr Ledyda was supported by only 53 of the required 54 members. Even then, he insisted on holding auctions to find effective owner for the resort. This summer, the Governor issued a decree to establish an interagency commission to resolve the issue of the title to the immovable property items of the sanatorium "Perlyna Karpat". One of the main problems is a legal one. For the last ten years, there has been litigation over the ownership of the resort.

The health resort was opened in 1989.   People with cardiovascular diseases and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract were treated there. For a long time, the facility for up to 500 beds was one of the three largest resorts in the region. The resort has been out of operation since 2009 – after the infamous incident with children poisoning.
