In Transcarpathia, officers of the State Border Guard Service jointly with the Security Service, under the special operation "Frontier-2016", exposed a channel of cigarette smuggling to Hungary.
The place, where violators were planning to move cigarettes, was identified in the course of hard work. The inter-agency group composed of border guards of the Mukachevo detachment, mobile reserves, and officers of the Secutiry Service of Ukraine, ambushed the smugglers.
They had to wait for a long time. Violators have been behaving quite prudently because the border in Transcarpathian region is being guarded by additional mobile teams of border guards. Prior to the deal, they had been trying to find out location of the border guard patrols.
When the group of smugglers was approaching the border, border guards revealed themselves. The smugglers abandoned the packages and tried to escape. In order to stop them, border guards had to make warning shots to the air. As a result, two fugitives were arrested. One of them was carrying a radio station.
Overall, they were carrying to Hungary more than 25 boxes of cigarettes.
Currently, the search for the remaining fugitives continues, and all the details of the offense are being established.
