Almost 30% of Ukrainians drink due to stress

51% of Ukrainians drink alcohol, only a third of the population have never drunk alcohol.

This was announced by sociologist of the Research & Branding Group company Yevhen Kopatko, presenting the results of sociological research.

"51% of citizens of Ukraine currently drink alcohol, and 15% of Ukrainians do not consume alcohol now, but have used it before. One third of the population of the country (34%) have never drunk alcoholic beverages" – UNIAN quoted the expert.

Speaking about the frequency of alcoholic beverages consumption, Kopatko noted that one third of Ukrainians who consume alcohol, do so with a frequency of two to three times per month (31%) or less than once per month (29%), one in five – about once a month (21%), and 16% of respondents drink alcohol several times a week.

According to the study, the frequency of alcohol consumption depends on gender: men consume alcoholic beverages more often.

22% of interviewed men reported that they drink several times a week, 39% – two or three times a month, 18% – once a month, 17% – less than once a month.

In turn, women tend to use alcohol less than once a month (44%), once a month (22%) and only 7% reported that they drink alcohol several times a week.

Also, the survey showed that most Ukrainians try alcohol at the age of 16-18 years (42%), one in five who drink alcohol first tried it at the age of 19 – 21 years (21%), 16% – aged 14-15 years and 14% – older than 21 years.

According to the survey, the three main causes of alcohol consumption are drinking on holidays – 71%, for stress relief – 29% and because everyone else does – the "Ukrainska Pravda" reported.
