A pickpocket, who was stealing in city buses, was detained in Uzhgorod

Yesterday, February 11, a resident of Uzhgorod approached the police. The young woman reported that in the morning, around 08.00, her cellphone had been stolen in public transport.

The victim suspected an unknown woman, who got off the bus at the next stop and got into a car Daewoo. Then the car drove towards the village of Mynai.

The information about the suspected pickpocket was promptly sent to nearby patrols. In the village of Velyki Lazy in Uzhgorod district, a patrol squad stopped a car with a woman matching the victim’s description. She turned out to be a 60-year-old resident of Khust district, who had previously been criminally charged for similar crimes. The thief had already sold the stolen phone.

The Uzhgorod Police Department launched a pre-trial investigation within the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 2 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Theft committed repeatedly).

Investigators now have information about the involvement of the Khust district resident in two cellphone thefts in public transport of the regional center.

At the same time, the police are appealing to local residents to report the facts of thefts in the public transport in Uzhgorod or Uzhgorod district, Transcarpathian regional police informs.
