A mini-sculpture of artist Csontvary will soon appear in Uzhgorod

He is also called "Transcarpathian Van Gogh." He never gained fame as an artist during his lifetime, the recognition came only after his death.

Historically, the two greatest Hungarian artists are from Transcarpathia. The first one is Mihály Munkácsy who was born in Mukachevo and took the pseudonym in honor of this city. And the second place is occupied by a pretty obscure Tivodar Csontvary.

– Csontvary was born in a small Slovak town, lived in Serednye and studied in Uzhgorod high school. While Munkacsy represents realism, the style of Csontvary still has not been clearly defined, because there are no artists like him. Unfortunately, there are few of his paintings in the world, all of them are in Hungary, therefore they are not well known – the creator of the monument, sculptor Mykhailo Kolodko says.

The sculptor believes that the name of Csontvary requires special attention, because few people know about him here.
