A pheasant farm has recently appeared on the outskirts of Bushtyno, in the Mali Kohutovi tract, – the Tyachiv.com.ua informs. The owner – Mykhailo Pokovba – says: he has dreamed of breeding these birds since the nineties, when he visited his acquaintance’s farm in the Czech Republic.

Last year, the enterprise in Tyachiv, where the man was working as a mechanic, shut down, workers were laid off. But Mykhailo Pokovba did not sink into despair: he got registered at the employment center and began developing his own business. He learned about pheasant breeding at a huge farm in Chernivtsi. There, he bought bird eggs, raised chicked in a hatchery, and built a large aviary on a privatized plot of land.

So far, there are few visitors – just friends and acquaintances, but eventually the owner plans to organize tours to the farm for schoolchildren and tourists as well. But that will be in the future, for now the man is breeding pheasants for his own pleasure. Although it takes a lot of time and effort, the birds require constant care and protection from unwelcome guests from the nearby forest.

"At first, foxes would frequently get into the farm, but now the farm is guarded by a hunting dog", – the owner says.

Wild pheasants, which inhabit the lands near the peasant farm, have come too. But that’s actually a good thing, – Mr. Mykhailo says:

"Some people even catch wild pheasant males for crossbreeding with domestic ones. This is very beneficial, because the offsprings have a good immunity."

In the future, Mykhailo Pokovba plans to expand the farm to grow more birds, as well as rabbits. The owner intends to sell pheasant eggs, young and adult birds. In the spring, he plans to release some of the adults pheasants into the wild.
