A criminal case is opened against official who demanded 3,000 dollars bribe from a foreigner

On August 28 Prosecutor of Transcarpathian region instituted criminal charges of bribery in especially big amount against the Deputy Head of Directorate for Refugees of the State Migration Service in Transcarpathian region (Part 3 of Art. 368 od Criminal Code of Ukraine).
On Tuesday, officers of the Department for Organized Crime Control arrested the official of the State Migration Service in his office upon a receipt of previously agreed amount of a bribe ($ 16 thousand).
A 20-year-old citizen of Somalia, who has been living in Ukraine for almost a year made an application to law enforcement officers. The foreigner said that the SMS official demands from him a bribe of three thousand dollars for the issuance of permit to stay in Ukraine.
 If the official’s guilt is proven in court he may be punished by imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to three years and confiscation of property.
  Currently, the official is detained. The investigation continues – informs the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Transcarpathian region.
