A CCTV camera helped to catch a thief in Mukachevo

A Mukachevo resident reported a theft to Mukachevo city police. The woman said that while she was substituting her daughter at work in a shop, an unknown person had stolen from her handbag a purse which contained the money in the amount of 600 UAH and a pension certificate.

Detectives found out that the criminal offense had been committed by a female resident of the district center. The offender, seeing that no one was watching her, took the purse out of the handbag of the woman, who at that moment was serving the customer, and left. But she did not take into account one thing – that the store was equipped with CCTV cameras. This video helped the Criminal Investigation officers to identify and apprehend the thief.

The woman who had been convicted as many as six times, confessed to the crime and regrets her action. In her defense, she said that she had been incited to do this by financial impasse in her family. She and her husband are unemployed and have absolutely no money for living. And they have two young children, one of whom is sick, no money for medicine or living, so she dared to steal. She also added that she was pregnant…

But whatever the circumstances that led the woman to the crime, the fact remains, and she will have to answer for her deeds.

The investigator has opened the criminal proceedings for committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art.185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft, if repeated). This offense is punishable by arrest for up to six months, restriction of liberty for up to five years, or imprisonment for the same term.
