A resident of the city of Khust reported to the police about the theft of her son’s car. The investigative team at the scene found out that persons known to the victim had loaded his car "Volkswagen Passat B5" with Polish registration onto a tow truck and taken it away. The police found out that the seizure of the vehicle was motivated by the victim’s debts to the thieves.
Following the search activities, officers of Khust Police Department established the whereabouts of the 35-year-old man who had stolen the "Volkswagen Passat B5".
He was arrested according to the Art. 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and put into the temporary detention facility. He was notified of being suspected under Part 2 of Art. 289 of the Criminal Code, ie misappropriation of a vehicle committed on preliminary arrangement by a group of persons.
Such acts are punishable by imprisonment for a term of five to ten years.
The choice of a pretrial restraint against the thief is being decided.
