A 16-year-old Ukrainian, who accompanied a Turk, may be imprisoned

Yesterday, in Transcarpathia, border guards of the "Uzhgorod" unit of the Chop detachment prevented the attempt of illegal border crossing by two individuals.

The offenders, who were heading through woodland towards Slovakia, were found and detained in 400 meters from the border by border guards. The men were not carrying any documents and they told the border guards that one of them was a citizen of Turkey, an the other one – of Ukraine.

As border guards later found out, the Turk intended to get into one of the Scandinavian countries. To do this he legally came to Ukraine, and later arrived in Transcarpathia by rail. Later, walking in the regional center, he allegedly accidentally met with a 16-year-old boy, who agreed for a small monetary reward to lead the "tourist" to the neighboring country. However, border guards disrupted their plans.

Now, the citizen of Turkey will be prosecuted for committing an administrative offense. In turn, our countryman, who has not yet reached 18 years, may incur criminal liability for "trafficking of persons across the state border of Ukraine", according to Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
