10 temporary checkpoints have been opened on the border with Romania

Ten temporary border checkpoint have been opened along the common border between Hungary and Romania this weekend, the Mukachevo.net reports. There were more than enough people wishing to enter the neighboring country via a shorter route.

On this occasion, public presentations with songs and laying of wreaths were arranged on the border. Because, on the Romanian side, there are many villages, where the Hungarian diaspora lives.

However, drivers will still have to undergo short document check. Recall that Romania is a member of the European Union, but not a part of the Schengen zone.

During ten years of EU membership, Romania and Bulgaria have not managed to fulfill key EU recommendations, though have made some progress in these areas. Special Monitoring of the European Commission is monitoring the progress of both countries in eradicating corruption. Their admission into the Schengen area depends on fulfillment to these conditions.
