On December 12, the Advisory Council on the Protection of Cultural Heritage at the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration had another meeting in Uzhgorod. At this time, 12 projects, which involve changes in the historical area of the regional center and other settlements, were submitted for its consideration, the ProZahid informed.

The first one to be considered was the project of the construction of a new building in the courtyard of the Greek-Catholic Holy Cross Cathedral on Bachinsky Square, carried over from the previous meeting. Since the cathedral and the bishop’s residence are national monuments, any changes in their territory should be made with extreme caution, so the last time the designer was asked to expand the project, visualize it in detail and to provide 3-D visualization, so that members of the council could see how the new building fits into the historical area.

The Advisory Council approved the project, it will then be sent to Kyiv for consideration, where specialists of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine will review it. They will make the final decision.

Then members of the advisory council considered the project of the reconstruction of the building, which is located near the monument of architecture "Schonborn Palace" in the village of Karpaty. There, a private person wants to rebuild on its property a small building for a 5-storey hotel. There was a debate around this issue, as the hotel would be located near the castle, at the edge of its protection zone. Since the agreement could not be reached, the chief architect of the region Mykola Pigulyak proposed first to develop the zoning of the territory around the Schonborn’s Palace with requirements regarding the possible construction on this territory and restrictions on the height of the buildings. Thus the consideration of the issue was postponed.

The following issue – about the restoration works on the facade of the medical faculty of UzhNU – also caused lively discussion. On this building, they want to replace the windows, restore the original entrance door, replace the plaster where it peels off, and paint the facade. As a result, after discussing the details of the restoration works and whether such works could influence the plan of inclusion of the Small Galagov neighbourhood into the UNESCO World Heritage List, the council approved the project.

Changes will soon be made on Drugety street. There, they want to reconstruct one of the buildings of the Austro-Hungarian period, which until recently was a part of the military town, for the needs of the Uzhgorod City and District Court. Now the building is in a state of emergency, it has not been used for a while. The court wants to turn it into an administrative building for 14 judges. But because there was not enough place there, a new, modern style building will be added to the old one. The Advisory Council supported the project with one condition: windows in the old building have to be wooden, not metal and plastic ones, as was planned.

The next project was presented to members of the Council by a woman, who lives on Koryatovich Square. The woman said that their yard behind the hotel "Atlant" is shared between 4 apartments. Local people would like to fix it up and turn it into a cozy courtyard. This idea was submitted for consideration of the Uzhgorod public budget, but since it is the historical city center, the idea must be approved the Advisory Council on Cultural Heritage Protection. The members of the council did not see anything wrong in the plan. They approved the idea.

The following project concerned the building on Voloshin street, 1. The beautiful two-storey building has been ruining for many years. Currently, it is divided between 3 owners who can not reach agreement among themselves. Two of the four apartments belong to the same owner, who wants to carry out an internal reconstruction of his part of the building to equip the medical and dental center there. Since the owner does not want to do serious interferences, the council members approved this project, but they asked when the facade would finally be repaired. The owner promised to deal with the preservation of the facade, when the medical center starts to make profits.

Then, the members of the council considered the project for the repair of the building of the Main Office of SFS on Voloshin street. The fiscal service wants to repair the building due to the problems with the old roof.

Also, members of the council gave permission to arrange a separate exit from an apartment on the ground floor. It is in the house 17 on Kyivska embankment, which the owner wants to turn into a grocery store. This house was built in Soviet times, but is considered a cultural monument because well-known culture figures of the region lived there.

Among other things, the Advisory Council voted to approve the historic-architectural master plan of the city of Tyachiv, and also considered the expediency of new memorials in Uzhgorod. Thus, the ViZa charity fund, with the support of the Czech Republic, wants to set up a memorial to victims of the First World War on the cemetery on Timiryazev street. And the Association of Citizens of the Twin Cities of Uzhgorod-Corvalis proposes to install in the park on Hoyda street (behind the building of the Regional State Administration) the Memory Stele devoted to the Transcarpathians who were killed in the ATO. The Advisory Council endorsed the expediency of the memorial on the cemetery, but rejected the idea with the stele, explaining that the memorial to the soldiers killed in the ATO was opened not so long ago on the Hill of Glory.
