The relatively warm weather, high winds and an abundance of dead wood contribute to the spread of fire. Within two weeks, workers of the state forest protection of Velyky Bychkiv forestry extinguished more than 100 fires. They are forced not to protect the forest from poachers and perform reforestation, but to watch for burning dry grass to prevent fires from spreading to the forest.
According to the chief engineer of Velyky Bychkiv forestry Mykhailo Demyanchuk, workers of the forest protection now bear primary responsibility for forests because timely arrival of fire brigades and successful firefighting, as well as the scale of damage depends on timely detection of fire. Foresters say that the main cause is the indifference of people who ignore basic safety rules and burn grass and debris. Sometimes, a fire from open areas reaches the forest and the houses of local residents.
Workers of the state forest protection are equipped with everything necessary for firefighting. Rescuers also help to extinguish fires.
