The orphanage of Fr. Voloshin will be consecrated Uzhgorod (Announcement)

Holy Cross Greek Catholic Cathedral in Uzhgorod going to honor the 70th anniversary of the martyrdom of Fr. A. Voloshin in Moscow Butyrka prison.

Today, July 17, at 15.30, the in pre-school №40 at Voloshin street, 36, there will be the event in memory of the Voloshin couple, who once gave their own house for an orphanage.  

And on Sunday, July 19, at 11.30, the Divine Liturgy will be held in the Cathedral. Then, a procession of the faithful will go to the said pre-school, where a memorial plaque will be solemnly opened and consecrated. The institution itself will also be consecrated.

It is in this building, where in 1933-1938 an orphanage, where 22 orphans were brought up, was situated. Recall that Augustine Voloshin was married to the daughter of the Uzhgorod Gymnasium Professor Irina Petrik – a relative of a Greek Catholic priest of Mukachevo Eparchy O. Dukhnovych. The couple had no children, so they decided to take care of a whole private orphanage. The children lived in a large two-story house, which father Augustine had bought for these purposes. They were provided with food, good clothing, training, education and development of creative abilities. There was a house band, dance group and a choir.
