Szijjarto: the expulsion of the Consul from Beregovo will be regarded as an unfriendly act

Budapest will regard the expulsion of the Hungarian Consul from Beregovo  because of the video with the distribution of passports as an unfriendly and risky step by Kyiv.

This was stated by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto, the website of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry reported.

"This step will change the relations between the two countries and will not remain unanswered, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has not received official communications on this matter," – Szijjarto said.

He said that the video recorded by a hidden camera in the Hungarian Consulate in Beregovo was used in the Ukrainian election campaign to win some votes.

According to the minister, the record was most likely to have been made and posted on the Internet on someone’s order.

He added that the oath of citizenship, recorded on the video, complies with all the rules, and, accordingly, the fact that the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine objected to it, can be explained only by internal political considerations and future elections.

"Dual citizenship is a common practice in the EU, and thus the Ukrainian objections show that Kyiv is not serious about European integration and NATO membership," – the minister said.
