In Uzhgorod, the police detained a man for bribing voters

Yesterday, November 19, in the regional center of Transcarpathia, police together with officers of the Security Service of Ukraine of the region detained an Uzhgorod resident who was buying votes in favor of one of the candidates for mayor.

Investigators found out that the Uzhgorod resident had set up a mechanism to bribe voters. The man was offering 500 hryvnias for one vote. The offender involved the chairman of the board of one of the condominiums in the bribery procedure. The latter was instructed to collect signatures of residents who would agree to sell their votes.

As part of the criminal proceedings initiated under Article 160 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, law enforcement officers detained the defendant red-handed, namely during the transfer of funds in the amount of 12 thousand hryvnias.

In return for this amount, he had to provide one of the candidates with 24 additional votes in the election.

The suspect was detained by the police in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention center.

Police investigators, under the procedural control of the regional prosecutor’s office, will request the court to impose a pre-trial restraint on the detainee.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, the Communication department of the Transcarpathian regional police.
